How to Build a Website Landing Page That Generates Better Enquiries

A section-by-section landing page recipe for service businesses that want fewer wasted clicks and more useful quote requests.

· Conversion Optimisation

High-converting landing page design begins with relevance. A visitor who searches for “WordPress website redesign” should not land on a generic homepage that spends its first screen talking about a dozen unrelated offerings. The page needs to confirm the visitor’s problem, explain the service and make the next step obvious.

Conversion rates differ by industry, traffic source and offer. Rather than promising a universal percentage, build a page that is easy to understand, trustworthy and measurable.

Start with one main decision

Decide what you want the visitor to do: request a quote, book a consultation, call your office or download a useful specification. It is fine to offer a secondary contact route, but the page should not compete with itself through five unrelated calls to action.

Write the hero headline around the customer’s intended outcome. For example, “WordPress Websites Your Team Can Edit” is clearer than “Innovative Digital Excellence”. Follow it with a short explanation of the audience and key deliverables. Put a visible action button close to the message.

Make the first screen useful on mobile

Many visitors reach a landing page from a phone. Test the first screen on a small device. Can someone read the headline without scrolling sideways? Does the CTA fit without a complex animation loading first? Can they tap the number without accidentally opening the menu?

Use properly sized images and keep essential information in HTML text rather than embedded in a hero graphic. Avoid large sliders when one strong visual does the job. Animations should respect reduced-motion settings and must not obscure buttons.

Build a service narrative that removes doubts

After the hero, answer the visitor’s next four questions in this order:

  1. Is this service right for me? Name the types of companies and problems supported.
  2. What do I receive? Describe scope and deliverables instead of vague outcomes.
  3. How does the process work? Explain discovery, build, review, launch and support.
  4. Why should I trust this provider? Show genuine work, verified testimonials or clear team credentials.

Then repeat the main CTA when a reader has enough context to act. Avoid making them scroll to the top to submit a request.

Keep forms short but useful

For an initial quote, ask only for information needed to respond: name, contact detail, service interest and a short project description. You can collect additional specifications after the first conversation. Clear validation, visible success messages and working email delivery are non-negotiable.

South African businesses should also explain how lead information is used and apply appropriate privacy and marketing practices under POPIA. Do not make consent boxes misleading or pre-ticked where explicit choice is expected.

Improve trust without inventing proof

A named case study with permission is more persuasive than a fabricated “500% revenue growth” statistic. If you do not have case-study permission, explain your process or show anonymised design samples labelled accurately. Testimonials should be genuine, attributable where possible and relevant to the decision.

FAQ sections can answer common commercial objections: Do you own the site? How are revisions handled? Is hosting included? Can staff edit it? Be specific about your own terms rather than claiming terms that have not been confirmed.

Run a simple conversion experiment

Record the existing form-submission rate and qualified enquiry count. Change one meaningful element—such as a clearer headline or shorter form—then compare performance over a sufficient period for your traffic level. Segment by device and source so one unusually strong ad campaign does not mislead the result.

If visitors abandon on mobile, investigate usability and load speed before rewriting all the copy. If enquiries arrive but are poorly qualified, test a more specific offer or an additional project-scope field.

Frequently asked questions

Should every service have its own landing page?

Usually when the buyer intent, deliverables and proof are meaningfully different. Avoid thin duplicates that only swap a headline keyword.

Is a “Get a Quote” button enough?

Not by itself. The page must explain what is being quoted, what information is required and how quickly a visitor can complete the request.
